Tom Rooney is a Portland based editorial and commercial photographer. His work is concentrated on Environmental Portraiture, Lifestyle and Advertising.

Born and raised in Phoenix, Tom later graduated with a BA Spanish and a Minor in History from the University of Arizona. He moved between Arizona and Oregon a few times, before settling down and becoming a resident of Portland in 2009. Tom’s passion for photography stemmed from early childhood when he and his father explored the Arizona desert together. Published at an early age, Tom continued to follow his love for photography into his college years and beyond.

In the past years, Tom has worked for clients such as Kmart, Dillards, Volvo, Chevrolet, Architectural Digest, and Galyans in the capacity of Assistant Photographer and Lead Photographer for Circle K, McGraw Hill, and Vello.

Recently, Tom has started a passion project, The Aperture Project, teaching photography to children via historically based neighborhood scavenger hunts and photojournalistic assignments. The project’s mission is to widen young people’s worldview by fostering creative expression and exploring cultural similarities between themselves and others using photography exchange programs.
