About Me

I'm photo-based visual artist who's work can range from high concept mixed media gallery work, to emotional intimate portraits, to high art fashion, to socio-political drama and fine-art nudes. I'm based in Austin, Texas and have been creating since 1995. I have many creative, gallery, publication and model references if needed. I'm presently trying to find a new vision, a new muse... something new to say.

Here's what Wayne Allan Brenner of the Austin Chronicle has said about my work:

INTERLOPER - (my 1st book)
"Some people see life more vividly than others do, and what's exceedingly rare, always and forever. People who can transfer the stunning whole of their visual experience into an expression that can be shared by others. What's never usual is someone who can capture the relentless kinetic miracle of existence in all its aspects ~ the urban and jagged, the natural and unfabricated, the darling and delightful and debauched and destroyed ~ and bring those images to eyes formerly innocent of the glory and glamor, the triumphs and trash, that shine everywhere in this complex life".

"Ricardo Acevedo is one such artist, a photographer whose untouched portraits often outdo what others attempt in Photoshop and whose manipulated works can express a thinking kaleidoscope's dream of sanity. Illustration, abstraction, machination. Narrative sequences like noir gone neon. There seems nothing beyond the skill of this man and his lens, which is why his works are worth watching: To see life in all its incarnations as vividly as possible".

NIGHT - (2nd book)
"Ricardo Acevedo is one of those occasional creatures of the night – one of the ones equipped with a superior lens and a heightened interest that verges on voyeurism. In NIGHT his new volume of photographic works (perfect-bound and designed for impact), you can look through his camera's eye as it documents in black-and-white verité a brief encounter between two young people who don't mind hooking up while a stranger's shutter is tuned to their increasingly erotic wavelength".

"Acevedo is also a wordsmith of the confessional variety, and in the second half of this glossy volume he's captured and arranged kaleidoscopic images of urban nightlife and annotated them with an intimate screed of How Things Are In His World. What goes on in the cheaper & boozier parts of your city while the more lackluster citizens are at home in their late-middle-aged beds watching a late night host tickle the lowest common denominator to sleep? Some of what you'll see in Night".
