MM’s Brittany Elizabeth gets a 6-page feature in Maxim
Model: Brittany Elizabeth
A huge congratulations to Model Mayhem’s Brittany Elizabeth on getting a 6-page feature in Maxim en Espanol. She is a beautiful and talented model, who is definitely taking huge strides in becoming successful. Brittany said, “I was thrilled when I found out that I was being published in Maxim en Espanol. I worked so hard the last 4 years and it feels great being able to see my hard work in print!”
Heidi Klum at age 19
Ever wondered what the supermodel looked like when she was 19? If so, you’re in luck. Heidi Klum recently tweeted a photo of herself from her first photoshoot ever when she was 19. She originally got her start as a model when she won a national contest, which had a total of 25,000 contestants, called Model 92. She is almost unrecognizable in this early photo.
MM’s Marie Blanchard lands the cover of Fever Magazine
Congratulations to Model Mayhem’s Marie Blanchard for landing the April cover of Fever magazine. Landing a cover of any magazine is an incredible achievement for a model, and certainly opens up even more fantastic opportunities. Here is a quote from Marie, which I find very interesting, “The moment you lose yourself is the moment you forget who you truly are! Never ever change for anyone, that’s what makes you a little more special than everyone else!” Her quote could easily be applied to models because oftentimes aspiring models will try too hard to fit a mold without first attempting to create and find their own niche.
Nude models essential to artists
Darren McCarty is a 47-year old Lincoln resident and personal trainer. However, in addition to training, he is also an art nude class model. Darren spends several hours a week holding poses all while naked and only for $12/hour. He understands how difficult it is to draw the human form and therefore he makes sure that the art class students are at ease when they see him nude. McCarty takes excellent care of his body by working out and eating right, both of which are essential for being a model. Nudity is not a big deal, although it does take both the person who is modeling and the person who is drawing a little while to get comfortable. Once people learn to look past the “he/she is naked” phase, it becomes much easier to focus on art and creating the best image possible.
MM’s Amanda Rae Michaels in Maxim
Congratulations to Model Mayhem’s Amanda Rae Michaels on her feature in Maxim en Espanol. We talked to Amanda about her own modeling career and to get some advice for aspiring models. Here is what she had to say: “I’ve been modeling for approximately five years. Recently I was published in Maxim en Español, and have several other publications coming out later this year.
I took some time off from modeling in 2009/2010, but I came back with a vengeance! I’ve accomplished so much in the past few months, and am very happy to be where I am in my modeling career.
If I had any recommendations for aspiring models, it would be this: always, always, always protect yourself! Keep yourself safe and make wise decisions. Don’t do anything that you don’t feel comfortable doing and don’t do a shoot with someone that you’re uncertain about. Check references, ask questions, do your research, and never-ever feel obligated to do something that you don’t want to do, or stay at a photo shoot if you feel uncomfortable. Bad and creepy things happen to models: Fact.
Lastly, don’t accept a job from just anyone that offers you a good dollar amount. Do Your Research! There are plenty of people on the Internet that aren’t legitimate and are interested in activities other than professional photography and modeling.
Other than that, have a good time. Enjoy the experience, enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people. I know it’s tough when you’re first getting started, but try to shoot with as many top-notch photographers as you can. Beautiful images really do make a difference in the way people view you. Also keep in mind, that if you shoot with a photographer who is just starting out, or who is not a superb picture-taker, those pictures of you will be on the Internet for everyone to see. Choose your jobs and photographers wisely. Be smart, be safe, and have fun. Best of luck to you all!”
