I noticed that more and more of the same topics have been popping up in the Model Matters Forum.... So, I decided to create one thread to answer all the questions that new models may possibly have.

1. "Do you think I have what it takes/which part of the industry do you think I will fit into/will I make it?"

~Go here.... it will answer all of your questions, and then some.

2. "I got an email... is it a scam... it seems too good to be true.... they want me to send them money....they are going to send me a money order."

~YES.... It is a scam.... Once again, go here. And, a search of the forums will answer your question.

https://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/the1reason/search.jpg

3.DON'T POST "VOTE FOR ME" THREADS IN MODEL MATTERS! It doesn't matter how many times you post it, it is considered SPAM and will be locked. Also, more than likely, people will not vote for you out of spite... yes, it's harsh, but it happens. You can post it in your own portfolio page.[/quand the new Casting Calls Section in the Browse function.
https://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/the1reason/browse.jpg

4. DO NOT POST CASTING CALLS IN THE MODEL MATTERS FORUM! There is a reason why we have a Casting Calls tab at the top of the page.

5.If you are asking, "What rates should I charge?", again, the search forum is your best bet. (See question #2)

6.Ok, this one has been asked a few times, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to add it..... Breast Size:

        Fashion=Small breasts
        Glamour/Lingerie/Swimsuit= Typically, larger breasts
Fine Art Nude=Depends on what the photographer wants
Commercial= Depends on what the client wants, but typically, not insanely large breasts.

7.DO NOT POST A RANT ABOUT HOW A PHOTOGRAPHER/MODEL/MUA DID YOU WRONG WITH IDENTIFYING INFORMATION!!!! It is called outing and it will get locked and you thrown on Probation. Also (as it's been proven many times in this forum), the truth will come out and you will look like a bigger asshole than the person you are outing.

8.DO NOT FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SACRED AND BEAUTIFUL, START A THREAD ABOUT ESCORTS!!!! If you really want to know what everyone and their mom (literally) think of Escorts, do a search of the forums. We most certainly do not need another 50 million page escort thread.

9.Agencies.... SEARCH FUNCTION.... It has been covered sooo many times that it's sooo not worth starting another thread over.

10.NUDES.... Doing/shooting nudes doesn't make someone a whore/perv.... If you have a problem with nudity, you are in the wrong industry.... Even high fashion involves some sort of nudity (be it topless, implied or full nudity).

Added, thanks to Jessalyn! big_smile
11. Should I Get This Tattoo?? OMG!! Will It Hurt My Career?? Well, yes, getting a tattoo will change your career but it wont hurt it. Different photographers will want to work with you. Some will give you an automatic "NO I won't work with you" if you have a tattoo but there are others that will scramble for you "Oh you have a tattoo!! I would love to shoot you!". Will your tattoo limit you? Maybe. Everything limits a model: her hair cut, her boob size, her height, her skin, her body art, etc. So it's just a personal choice you have to make. Can you still sign with an agency if you have a tattoo? Of course. The times are changing and people are accepting tattoos more and more these days.

Another add thanks to Jess wink
12. As a model, you do not own the copyright to the images a photographer takes of you. Unless they have given you the copyrights, in writing, which is very very rare for them to do. Even if you pay for the shoot, you do not own the copyrights. Just like if you go to the store and buy "Borat" on DVD you do not own the copyright to that movie. You have only bought a sort of "license/release" to use that one copy. This applies to the USA, every country has different laws.

13.If you are a photographer and come into Model Matters to whine about a "Flakey Model" expect a backlash. You aren't the first and you will not be the last. Get over it.... it happens. Add the model to your personal Black List and move on with your day. big_smile

Added thanks to my Soulmate! big_smile
14.Ok.... If you are going to ask for advice in the forums, don't be so vague. You have to give details of what you are asking, otherwise, your question will not be answered.

For Example: Should I sign with this agency?

*If we don't know what agency it is, how can we tell you if it's ok or not.

Another example: Rates (for the people who still don't do a search and still inquire).

*If we don't know what type of shoot you are doing, what the trade agreement details are and etc., we cannot help you.

We are supposed to be adults.... so let's be big boys and girls and form complete sentences and include valuable details with our questions. And, if you don't, don't get pissy when your "question" doesn't get answered.

15.If someone asks you to do an interview over a webcam, it is a SCAM.... Run far far away.... That is all. big_smile

How to take your own measurements:

http://plussize.about.com/od/dressingfo … ements.htm

Its geared more for full figures but the same directions work for everyone.

Tips: Make sure your measuring tape stays level.

The fullest part of your hips means around your butt.

If at all possible, have someone else measure you rather than trying to
measure yourself. It will be much more accurate.

On another note, if your are in my part of town, I am more than willing to take your measurements for you free of charge.  smile

17. I'm only 5'0, but I can kill a runway.... The Industry just isn't being fair...... Hon, it has nothing to do with fairness, Life isn't fair, get over it. It doesn't matter how bad you can rip the runway, fashion shows are about the clothes, NOT YOU!!!!

I have no reading comprehension.  Ha!  I see the rates now.  And photographers come in here all the time whining about flaky models.  In fact, photographers come in here all the time in general.  smile

I think that there should be a probation period - that models should be required to take a test before they can join MM.

I love the people who start threads titled best legs/ass/feet/whatever, then post pics of their own less than average looking body parts. Fishing for compliments basically

If you have a specific question, it never hurts to ask some of the more experienced models on here. They'll probably appreciate spending three minutes answering a query instead of having to tell people they're ignoring all the rules again smile

i cant believe i missed that thread, people keep mentioning it.
i feel i missed some great entertainment

i know i havent been that active on the forums but something that irritates me are these people that post a rant about a situation when they were obviously in the wrong and the cant understand why everyone is 'attacking' them as one girl put it.
Why post something, ask for an opinion and then go off crying when you didnt hear what you wanted.

I refer to newmodels.com for specific questions because the answers are on the site.... all other questions. I tell people to use the search function, because odds are, they have been talked about to death in these forums.
