Where did this one originate?  "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"

Anyway, this is a question for models, and one of no real merit--I'm just curious.

Have any of your photogrpaphers during a shoot obviously been "happy to see you" and was it of any concern to you, or do you think it is normal?

Is it flattering?  Is it disgusting?

(It has not happened to me).

I think it's normal, and flattering to a point. Can't think why it would be disgusting though. Any more than a female photographer who was "nippy".

If it hasn't , you need better models.  Good question though....lots of things I'd love to know about the inside of a model's psyche...that will forever be a secret

the phrase should be attributed to Mae West.

as to what to do... sorta depends on what else is going on, and what the reputation of the photographer is. why are you looking at his crotch?

Ew, it's disgusting because I'm there to do a job and I don't want your boner around me. It's no different from anyone else I'm not fucking getting "excited" to see me- ew ew ew! I am very particular about the boners in my life and any unwarranted ones make me want to vomit.

it's a natural reaction. what's all the "ew" for? it's not a problem unless they say anything inappropriate. i act like i don't see it.

This comes down to attitude. A professional attitude vs a Wannabe attitude.

We are all humans, things happen sometimes, when they do, keep it professional, keep working. Simple as that.

Some models will do thier best to get a reponse from you.

Any image that provokes an emotional response, which was intended by model and photographer is a good thing.

Lets not kid ourselves.  Images are supposed to evoke a response.  When I am capturing, I will be concentrating on an awful lot of technical aspects - but I can't let all of that overwhelm the thought process of "does this image illicit the response I want if I push the button right now.."

Its probably overstating/oversimplifying it to suggest that a sexy image will lead a photographer to some sort of obvious physical sign as suggested by the OP.   If it happens, it sure wouldn't be something I would *want* the model to see.  Thats a bit much, eh?

Then stop modeling. What do you think advertisers are going for. Sex sells in advertising. If you can't give someone a "boner" then find another profession.

I agree with Tammy.  Men get erections.  That doesn't mean that they feel the need to attack any cute girl nearby everytime they get one.  If that's happened, then it's a problem.  If not, you're fine.  Hell, I'm half to fully naked on most of my shoots.  Any "happiness to see me" is proof I'm doing what I'm paid for.

And, uh, Tiff?  How exactly do you pick and choose the boners in your life?

I think she's just really young and immature. Sure this is a business, but you're there to elicit an emotion.....a reaction, and like a previous poster mentioned, if you can't handle that, go find another occupation.
ALso, if this has never happened to you, you might want to consider another occupation again, because what you're doing, isn't doing it for the photog, and if it's not doing it for them, it won't happen for the consumer!
Experience and maturity ought to help.

you're all right. i am sorry. i deeply apologize for and regret any offensive remarks that i may have made about wieners. i will spend the rest of my day looking at pictures of boners that way if i am ever in a situation in which i am surprised by one, i will be able to choke my discomfort. thank you fall for reminding me that natural things like boners should not disgust me and for keeping in mind that not all women are comfortable with the sexual organs of men, regardless of the intention slash motivation behind the erection.

OK Guys! ...no more boxers...use Duck Tape next time you are going to a shoot..it works well, you may feel a little disomfort and may walk funny at times, but the models will never have to see your emotions and you will keep it verry professional!

Case close...ohhh, and Ladies....STOP LOOKING!!!!

whoa whoa.  it is not a phobia. you guys are looking way too far into what i said earlier. in all seriousness, i do not hate men, i have no issues with men....i just wouldn't be comfortable with an erect photographer. i know that its natural and happens blah blah blah, but that doesn't change how i feel. i'm also not comfortable when i dance with a guy and he gets an erection. why? i'm just not. i shouldn't have to validate that.

i guess i say things in jest because in my life, not everything is taken soooo seriously nor is every line picked apart by people who can't get over themselves for just a minute. honestly, relax. although my last post was mostly sarcastic, i am now honestly saying that i am sorry if anyone was offended.  if you're a photographer in the southern california area who is prone to erections while shooting, feel free to add me to your list of 'models not to shoot'.

Seriously! Not even two weeks ago there was a thread about weather or not getting turned on by a model during a shoot was a bad thing. Most people got called unproffessional if they admitted something close to that. Now there is a thread about the same thing and it seems like it's the other way around. It's now a bad thing if you can't turn give a photographer a boner during a shoot?  I personally, chose not to share my opinion in this thread about the subject. But really! What is with this place?
