Why are you bothered about it? They can insist all they want but the truth is they won't be hired on a larger show....What's your point? If you see one on some sort of a runway what is YOUR issue with it?

If you're in a smaller market, short models CAN, technically, do runway. I've been in several fashion shows and I'm 5'6".

But that's not the kind of "runway modeling" most models would be referring to, I'm sure.

Exactly! There is the larger market, but there are local shows. What is it bothering him for?

I happen to think it's garbage to not make a podium and using the floor as an excuse, but i'm not making threads about it big_smile

Why not ask short people why they want to do it. Why ask people who can't answer like the persons you're questioning...

I can contribute because I think it's garbage. Its always ok to say not to use certain people as model examples BUT yet they're on runway and looking good on it and not at the height of good ol' 5'9.

I also say I digress I can't change the industry and it is what it is.

The point of the thread was to get people irritated.

In your case, it worked.

What is worse? The person that started the stupid thread, or the ones that keep posting on it?

I'm not even irritated! I just find it SO amazing that someone is worrying about someone that doesn't affect them in their line of work smile

thats an offensive way to put it. When i was little and decided i wanted to do runway i didn't know i wouldn't grow to be that tall!!! i didn't know i would miss the minimum height by 4 inches. I thought I was pretty tall for my age. So yes it's still a dream. Just because they insist on doing runway does not mean they will. Plus there are still many opportunities to do runway even as short as i am. I am doing one for a hair show next month and possibly another one in Louisiana (pending on my audition results)
anything is possible. are you a runway scout?

It's simple: They aren't educated enough in how the business works yet, and they associate the best modeling with runway, so they feel that since they want to model, they should say they want to be fashion or runway models. It will only be when they see just how the runway shows are set up (stage-wise) that they will be able to see that they wouldn't fit, due to the fact that people in the back wouldn't be able to see them on the stage, and it would be useless for them to even try (other than small market mall shows).

Atleast, that's my take on it. I've been there...only I never wanted to do fashion. I modeled a while back, don't do it anymore. I found my niche behind the camera instead.

If someone is a high fashion photographer then your clients aren't worried about short models, and def not worried about them being on their runway for you to shoot. *shrugs*

Sweetie I am a good 5ft 5.5in lol and I think we are the ones that was really supposed to answer that question lol but for me *cough cough* I jus wanna try it all!!! I know I am short Dont think it fair that I am cast out due to being a bit vertically challenged but I can move on and get my experience or runway fame locally in these fashion shows so....that's my time to shine and I will other than that lol I know where my place is in this industry...of course most ppl dont do change its a written law somewhere that we the short ppl are not to due runway (for whatever reason) geez get over it there is so much more out there you can do...get in where you fit in

Errrr... I am sorry... but I think that you may not have read my article at all.

Because IF you'd know a few things... and they were industry based, you wouldn't use arguments like this:

I have no idea...

Shorter models shouldn't be discouraged though.  They can still have successful careers in commerical, artistic, and glamour modeling...which mostly consists of 5'5-5'8 ers.
