Talk about advertising backfiring:

https://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2892/brazilad1gk1.png

"She’s part of a new Brazilian advertising campaign for low-fat yogurt in which iconic film images are re-imagined with fat women where thin women used to be. Its tagline is: Forget about it. Men’s preference will never change. Fit Light Yogurt."

Talk about absurd, she's hot! More examples of the ads at the main page where I found this below:

What's weird to me is that these women posed for something that was deliberately meant to make fun of them. I wonder if they knew. Otherwise a job is a job I guess.

Personally I like the images. Never judged beauty by size. Beauty is an attitude!

But you have to realize where these ads are being run....Brazil. Brazil is famous for it's beaches where all you see are fit tan bodies running half naked through the surf. Makes we wonder where all the normal people are? I mean not EVERYONE in Brazil looks like a beauty constestant. So where are they?

Which is weird because every time I go to Central and South America the men love me. I would think that they would be used to women being less body consious.

That's weird, and sad.  I could understand if it was an ad using someone who was just grossly obese and covered in facial warts (I am thinking something along the lines of my ex's 400 pound 5'2" mom) but that woman is beautiful and curvy.

How lame!

That's crazy. Yeah I'm sure they weren't directly told. well I don't know. But I agree with everyone else. That woman is simply gorgeous. I'm sure she has no problem with herself.

The whole ad campaign is disgusting and insulting to women of all sizes.

Men's preferences change from man to man. A beautiful woman is beautiful woman no matter what her shape or size!

No wonder eating disorders in Brazil have gone sky high in the last few years and their models are, literally, starving themselves to death.

It’s such a shame coming form a country that used to proudly celebrate the beauty of women.

Yes because the Brazilians used to celebrate the fuller, rounder figure on a woman.

Now, unfortunately, Brazilian culture has become inundated with the more Western image of the supper skinny female ideal and it's all changing.

It's the reason why their rates of eating disorders have gone sky high and two of their top models died of anorexia last year.

So sad.

I have nothing to ad.. Just thought this may be the quote of the year, and is definitely slogan-worthy..

Can I get a bumper sticker?

Where's that page where you can make your own bumperstickers? Does Cafepress do that?

It's funny how people forget all the slightly important things that feminists did for women and children including legal and labor rights, healthcare, and the ever important invention of the bra.

Being a pro woman's right guy is a tricky road.. I have many feminist friends.. Who tend to like me up to a point and, when certain things go on in the world (the current administration being a good example) lump me in with the rest because my skin is white and I have a penis..

Frustrating..

Sorry buddy, the partriarchy does have a penis. You're just going to have to get used to having that in common with it, but don't take it personally.

The modern bra with bandeau and wired cups was created by feminist Ida Rosenthal, who patented the design and created the letter sizing system. She went on to found and market Maidenform.

I want to give that woman her own holiday. I'd be lost without her.

I am disgusted by the ad, not the woman.  Do they really think that no men would find her attractive?  She is beautiful.  And not that there is anything wrong with being fat, but "fat" is not a word I would use to describe her.

She patented it in 1921, well before the modern feminist movement.

True, not everybody in Brazil looks like a beauty contestant... some are simply slender AND unattractive.

I heard that the average Brazilian is slender and the woman in this add may totally conflict with their idea of physical beauty, just because it's "not normal" in their culture/society.

Brazilians as far as I know them are physically very active (I know more than just Brazilian models!!!) and their food is also more natural than what we eat here.

They eat a lot of fruits etc., their diet is so different from ours, although largely meat based, their meats are not as much treated with hormones etc. compared to the US.

Even the poor have a better diet and are physically more active.

Are there larger people in Brazil? Absolutely!

Are there guys that prefer women with "meat on their bones"? Totally!

... btw. is fatty tissue considered meat? wink

The fact that Kate is being chased by Argentinian men can be also the simple fact that she is gorgeous and "exotic" looking... wink

The woman in this add appears normal to Americans because, well... she has the average built of the American women of nowadays...

Our perception of beauty is also determined on what we see in a day in day out environment.

I have some thoughts about this from an anthropological view point, but that would go too far now.

To summarize:

Different culture, different eating habits, different lifestyle and different diet, hence different body image and different perception of beauty.
