Penthouse style is with three layers of panty hose rubber-banded around the lens. Minimum.

Penthouse used to be lots of soft focus genital closeups, masturbation and girl/girl shots; then it went to full on m/f hardcore and watersports.  Last I heard, Penthouse had been sold and revamped into a Maxim clone with nothing but bikini and implied shots.

Sad - what used to be some truly stimulating and artful erotica ("porn" - if you like) involving among the world's most beautiful faces and bodies has now turned into a Far Right Christian magazine whose target audience is "gay hairdressers"!!!

I'm not sure I'm buying this. Take a look at their website afterall... perhaps this just applies to the magazine?

I subscribed to the website a couple of months ago and it's still pretty hardcore... though the most the pets do is spreads and stuff like that..

Nope - vaseline on a clear UV filter.

Hasselblad made the best soft focus filter - the Softar - that was more like a series of lenses of varying degrees of softness.  I always liked the effect of the Softar over vaseline anyday.

Is anyone out there old enough to remember the "Pubic Wars" between Penthouse and Playboy back in the day - and which one of them actually had the first showing of pubic hair in their US version?

From about 1998 till a year or so ago, Penthouse went totally hardcore i.e., showing photos of actual oral, vaginal and anal penetration. It also began to regularly feature pictorials of female models urinating.  They lost what few mainstream advertisers they had and many newsstands quit carrying the magazine.

Penthouse style means flip-flopping all the time so one day your limits are hardcore, the next day Maxim style, the next back to Playboy style and then Playboy still in the book and hardcore on the site.

Oh wait a minute, i guess that means that Penthouse style is whatever you want it to be.

It's much cleaner now than even some of the Playboy SE I've seen. I canceled my subscription when I saw the implied shots, no, just kidding, but it has changed. If you want Pu$$y shots, you're just going to have to stick to your Cherry and Nugget magazines. LOL

He's absolutely right in my opinion, in regards to the magazine itself.  I haven't seen the website though.

I'm interested in seeing it, since the magazine used to be so much harder and has softened drastically, I'd like to see how the website compares (and competes) against the hundreds of thousands of amateur sites offering considerably harder content.

Showing the works. I would assume its a twist of both glam and adult. Way to much photoshop work though.

Yepp. Now they hardly show any spread in the mag at all. It's playboy-esque.  I like Hustlers Taboo anyway though smile

I remember thinking (back in the day) that Penthouse style took it's cues from fashion, as the images were far more sophisticated and edgy then the alternatives:

Playboy=cutsie glam
Hustler=in your face (bow chicka wah wah)

You owe me a coffee.....the one I just spit up all over my keyboard!!!!

I agree when Penthous first hit the market the photography was a marked improvement over Playboys airbrushed beauties.....I think Penthouse showed a totally new way to shoot erotic/glamour using a combination of soft focus and polarized filters....very unique at the time.

However now....it's turned into a piece of crap! I went and bought an issue about six months ago after hearing how improved it was.....total waste of EIGHT freaking dollars!!!!

Does anyone remember Viva magazine?  It was published by Penthouse in the late 70's and its target audience was women, although it seemed to be riding the "bisexual chic" wave of the time.  For a while it had some big name photographers and was way more erotic than Playgirl and even Penthouse.

It's a hazy recollection but I do remember seeing it on newstands.....didin't last for more than a year or so.....reality is that women don't buy erotic magzines.....men do! Or at least the ones who are in the middle of their testosterone frenzy do!

Penthouse style..... ok this is tough now as penthouse has contacted a few of my clients trying to convince them that they are more soft core now and more playboy style but penthouse style is basically great photography with a lot of open leg shots and sexual touching and expression

I don't use the term "penthouse," but I do use the term "hustler."

Playboy nudes = legs closed.  Hustler nudes = legs open.

I have shot them before, but only with certain photographers.  It is adult work, but I wouldn't have a problem with tactful solicitations on mm.  Others might.

they have some good photographers now. I want to see a few more issues with the change, but I'm considering posing for them if they keep it up

You heard wrong.
IT's still nude, spreads but not hardcore like it used to be.
More like a bad copy of Playboy done by amateurs.
