Hi fellow stylists,

I am doing a wedding consultation in a few days and I could use some advice. When I'm on set touch ups aren't a problem but after I do the bridal makeup I'll be leaving and I'm wondering if anyone can share with me your favorite, longest lasting lipstick. I will probably get the bride to choose her own so she will have an ample supply.

Thank you.

I like Lancome...and the Sephora brand.
But the best trick is to put a little foundation underneath the lipstick.

Step #
1. Use a lip pencil (natural lip color) and color the whole lip with it
2. Apply Lip color
3. Use Lip Chic (by Alcone)
4. Apply Lip color again
5. Blot
6. Use 1 ply tissue, put on lips, a use powder over tissue

That's what I do and it stays Very well.  And actually when I do weddings I give the bride a little gift...I give her the tube of lipstick I used on her that way just incase I dont stay, she can apply whenever she wants smile

Doesnt the powder over the lip make it dry?

MAC and Max factor make lipsticks specifically for these issues. They are latex based, and they are long wearing. You need baby oil to get them off, and they come with two parts, the color and the gloss you put over it.

While completely inappropriate for model makeup, and not even really great for everyday makeup, if she is having a wedding, and does not want to touch up her makeup, this is the way to go. I have gone clubbing and come home 8 hours later and the crap is still on.

When I model I NEVER use that kind of lipstick though, as you cannot put any other lipstick over it, and it needs to be applied in a thick even coat the first time as any subsequent touch ups will not do well for the consistancy of the makeup.

The powder doesnt make it dry cos your putting a 1 ply tissue over the lips then powedering over the tissue.  Lip Chic is actually found in Alcone Stores.  I dont know if there is one in Canada but I do know that you can order online at www.alconebeauty.com

If you are unable to get the lip chic then just Skip that step and do:

Lipliner
Lipstick
Blot
Lipstick again
1 ply tissue and powder over tissue

Hope that helps (that's what I did before I got the Lip Chic)

And actually Lip Chic is what is used to coat Corn Flakes (so its totally edible) just a higher intensity of it.  It tingles a bit when you apply (depending on how dry your lips are) and then it goes away in like a minute.

Hope that helps smile

Hey... one more!!!

I just found a lipstain by Smashbox that is a liquid applied with a sponge applicator, then the flip side is the gloss. The stain stayyyyyysssss and is great to shape the lips with as well. It comes in 3 different colors that are natural looking. A brown (that is a natural lip with a coral tint), a red (cherry), and maroon. They sound dark, but you control by how many layers you apply. It is really great! It does not get crusty, sandy, or wear off like most long staying lipsticks.

Good to know I think I might get those.

Here's what I "do" for all of my brides. I have purchses diposable containers that are very small, like a pill holder, I create the brides lip stick colour that suites her  and she loves the colour than I put some into the container with a disposable lip stick brush. I make a "bride kit" it has one shout whipe in it, the custom lip colour and disposable wand, and a couple of tissues, and some blotting papers .All of my  brides have loved this "gift" i give  them, its included into my price but they dont know about it untill i am just about to leave. So its a surprize.
Never had a problem with lips not happy with this little estra step to make a brides spececail day kissable.

Use Lancome

You apply it...let it sit for 5 secs and apply the concealer that comes with it and her lips will stay for the entire day. 18 hours. Feels like she's wearing nothing at all.  It won't wear off nor fade (unless she's drinking like a fish)

The description of smashbox sounds really nice - I might try it. I know that smashbox makes the most heavenly primer ever! It makes the skin feel like velvet.

The Lancome lipstick sounds interesting as well.
Decisions, decisions!!

I'm trying to understand this: do you mean sealer afterwards, or concealer before?

The Smashbox primer is REALLY GREAT!!! It's soft and doesn't feel like you have anything on your face. Makeup looks like natural skin (I've used it with Joe Blasco, Mac, Sheer Cover) and the makeup stays all day. Better than the Lancome or MAC silicone primers. Infact, I'd say best on the market!

So is Smashboxes 3x milled finishing powder it doesn't settle in the pores or fine lines. Really great for more mature faces... only problem with that is it doesn't come in translucent, so it has to match the foundation.

Of course I will tell you  MAC Longwear- the bride will wake up with it on still (as long as the lips are exfoliated before application..)!!!
