This is the perfect gift to give someone who "has everything" they need or want.

Donations to charities are down 35% this year, but requests of charities are up 40%. There is a real strain this year to stretch things to help so many in need. How many of your friends or family would be upset if, instead of getting them that tie, book, DVD, video game, etc. you give them a charity gift card that they can then use to donate to the charity of their choice. There are over 1.5 million charities here so I'm sure you can find at least one or two that will interest someone.

Or if someone is financially doing ok and an animal lover consider adopting a pet.

I've long believed the best gift for the person who has everything is a shot of penicillin... smile

Thank you Ora and Industrielle.

For the others here, I don't mind humor, sarcasm, smartass comments, etc. I don't feel it's appropriate in this thread, though. If you have nothing positive to add to a serious discussion, don't post.

I always ask for gifts in the form of charity donations from my relatives.  It makes me happy and cuts down on needless clutter.

It's an investment and microfinances someone wanting to be independent.  When your $$ are paid back, you invest them again. It's a present that gets given again and again.

They have gift certificates.

My brother in law is one of those people. The man and his family are doing very well in life. David's taken thousands of photographs of his brother's daughters, so I'm getting them a leather bound book to use as the huge funky photo album.

You thread was titled "gifts for those that have everything". An example you gave was charitable donations.

There are other gifts out there that people will suggest.

If you expected this thread to focus solely on the topic of charitable donations you should have titled it differently.

There's also the option of planting a tree in someone's name.

I think this is the site a friend used last Christmas: http://www.arborday.org/

I dated a guy that for Christmas donated a goat to a family in need in another country. I thought it was equally funny and awesome.

My family does that one every year. We donate a pair of animals, the pair breeds and the family who received the first pair donates the offspring to another family in need, and it goes on and on.

We had a work Kris Kringle thing where we had to spend no more than $20 on a pressie... Who needs a work-colleague to buy them a $20 pressie?

I bought mine some poop!

Well, a donation of poop (manure) for a farming community in Sri Lanka.

We did the family goat thing for Christmas 08 too.
