I have an issue when models say that you must have a "professional studio" and not a home studio and if your studio is out of your home then they wont shoot with you.  My studio is out of my home, it takes up the first floor west side of my home.  It is still a professional studio but to keep overhead down, prices low and an easy commute to work I like to work out of my house and plan to do that for the rest of my life.

Actually in my area home studios for professional studios are the norm.

Is there anyone else that feels this way out there or am I just a rare breed.

Just because we work at home does not mean we are not professional

I shoot out of a home studio and never had that problem.

Can't see how the studio location could matter, unless it is a scary part of town, the end product is what counts.

Might be that the models are using that as an excuse not to shoot with you when they get cold feet at the thought of a shoot.

It really shouldn't make much difference whether your studio is home studio or a separate location. Your work pretty much should be whether or not someone want to work with you. Although for most corporate clients a home studio could be a turn off. But nonetheless there has been some pretty amazing work coming from photog's who work out of home studios just as there has been some spotty work from those who have a 'professional' studio. I wouldn't sweat it much as I used to shoot from a home studio till I needed more space and the need to separate my home life/work life. So now I shoot from a dedicated studio which allows me more work space and the ability to utilize more props.

So don't sweat it, keep shooting and let your work speak volumes to your future clients!

No no one has ever said this to me but I dont contact a model if her page states this.  I have no problem with models shooting out of my home studio at all and even my corp clients like how i can work any time of the day or night to get the product done and to them in a timely manner.

I have the whole up stairs (four rooms) as my studio. I can't aforde a studio since I just moved here. But it still works. I think a model should look at you and your work not your studio. Because there are some people out there that have a studio... dosnt mean their good at what they do.

If a model were to ever tell me she won;t work in a home studio, my first question to her would be "What agency are you working from?"  If no agency... ummm, she may be working out of HER home too???

lol I like that response.

The majority of photographers on MM shoot in their homes, or outdoors. It has no relation to professionalism -- and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I have models come to my Studio/bedroom and said it was cool.  I have heard from models that some photographers (gwc's)  just wanted to shoot them naked in their apartments.

Doesn't matter as long as the photographer can produce good images.

Only 19 in my portfolio were NOT shot in at my home....and half of those 19 were shot in hotels...

I agree with an earlier poster... where you shot matter very little...If a model says that... it's an excuse.

Your profile implies that you DON'T shoot attractive models.  I don't know why you would want to do that.  YOU many not like Barbie Dolls...but your potential models might still think of themselves different than from what you are implying...  You pretty much can be assured any model who thinks they are attractive need not apply!
