August 29, 2009 7:34am I love the insight this gives into the trickiness and sheer hard work involved in getting the perfect image, in marked contrast to elegance and deceptive casualness of the finished product. The glamour and gracefulness of the yacht complements the model in the advertising image, but what one sees here are the narrow confines, the ropes, spars, and machinery that seem to be getting in the way rather than providing a ready-made stage, and the model herself cuts an attractive but strangely lonely and incongrous figure, her wildly-blown hair and flimsy outfit creating a very vulnerable and un-sailor-like picture. Her easy and graceful demeanour in the final shot is thus a very dramatic transformation, although one can now see, after looking at this shot, the very practical reason for her pose, with her hand striving to keep her hair out of mischief ...
