For starters, 466 images?!? Pare it down to fewer than fifty. Better yet, twenty-five.

Just looking at the first page and nothing more.

Your exposures are inconsistent. Most are well done, some underexposed. Some have the model semi-adequately exposed, but the background outdoor scenery is too dark.

Composition and poses range from decent to assembly-line boring. You've got a bunch of models just sitting on a chair on a beach. Plunking a girl into a chair and having her sit there smiling, Having different girls do the same shot does not make the shot different.

Pare down your portfolio MERCILESSLY. Get rid of redundancies and flat snapshots and show some diversity in your style and technique.

I agree with the above posting;

File down your portfolio to the few images that best represent your skillset. No one wants to glance through tons of images, as it only takes a few to decide if you're someone worthwhile. As of this post, you have 129. Get rid of all blurry or fuzzy shots. Then remove any that seem redundant.

To me, this portfolio shows a photographer who has a basic understanding of the art. I see solid depth-of-field and decent lighting, but no real composition or forms. The models all seem to have a smile or look off into the distance; no real expressions or dynamic poses. Spend a little on a pro model and see how their skillset can make your images pop.

Just my opinion

When I looked you were down to 129 images. But, to my frame of mind, that is way too many. Few people will wade through multiple pages of photos. And, it gives an impression that your work may be all over the place, since you (seem) unable to show your work concisely. Think of your portfolio a shop window front. You want to entice the customer to come in to buy.

I also found no rhyme or reason to the order of the images, which again makes it difficult to follow. Perhaps grouping them as outside/inside as a start; or beach/other locations might clear the portfolio to the viewer.

As already noted, I also found the images to be of varying quality. Some of the good images are exceptionally good, but then they were mixed in with poor exposure or framing. The difference between a photograph and a snapshot is planning.

It is often said that the weakest photo in a portfolio will set the viewer's (and potential client's) opinion of the work. As such, I'd suggest culling the images again, to the point where you think you have only your own very best images. The goal (I assume) is to sell your services, make it easy for the client to choose you.

Good luck,
JT

Greetings,

The most difficult thing in photography is having good control over your lighting.  It is something that you will always work on, whether you are a natural light or strobe photographer.  You have to practice constantly to see the images and how they are lit in your mind before you trip the shutter.  I would suggest the following books to help you with your lighting: Understanding Flash Photography by Bryan Peterson, Pro Digital Portrait Lighting by Peter Hince and any book written by Nick Fancher.  Keep in mind you will improve as long as you keep learning and keep shooting.  Good luck to you.

Ok, you have some great shots in there.  Agree with all the forgoing suggestions, but especially the one recommendation of getting your port down to 25 or so of your best.  Quantity does not translate into quality.  Twenty five shots is sufficient to show a range of talents.

Best Regards,

B

HI,
There are some nice photos but models with bras is not  a professional look done by either side. You need to educate your models before they make you look upstart.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36092876
You need to speak up when a model is about to waste your time with glitter to the horrible eyebrow coloring. AND you do not want earrings over powering the model and these are like a house sign and never good for modeling. You keep your logo small, but logos still ruin the models image  and distract from the model. I like this models necklace. Not a friendly expression, more combative. I like the AF with the backdrop

Not sure what;s growing from her butt. Simple enough to edit it out.  The multi layer is an unprofessional look for both parties. Swimsuit or dress, not both. i would lessen the shadows on the arm, but nice tones and lighting casting huge shadows under the arms spilling harsh shadows on the dress and under neck. Not sure why the dress was chosen. A size too big and it's adding tons of huge wrinkles. Most can be edited out in 2 mins including the stick near butt. Too much headroom. always crop just above knees or under feet.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36082095
background just too dark that image looks like 2 images combined. It's a nice smile and friend image otherwise.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37872244
Almost a fashion shot so you can do the rings but the fingers are very distracting and her neck down with the no neck look not good, Tones and lighting are nice. Models should be told to wear dark eye shadow to work with all outfits versus none.
Hair posed very nice. Nice sharp image. Too much headroom. A big wrinkle in the dress but it's kinda out of the way but watch out for the wrinkles.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/44668593
Dont want models posing with the head down so much. the lighting is ruining a very good image here too, Just so unnatural and phone camera look. Hand posing nice, bow is nice and neat. Nice setting in daylight or good lighting.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/44668680
You don't want shoulders as the lead but this is nice considering the unprofessional model hair. Hair need to be natural human tones. Doesn't have to be your own, but for real work and to be considered a pro.  You need natural, I do like the makeup. these larger earrings would work well with nice hair. Nice skin tones, dress. lighting working good. Looking down works fine here. Elbow not so bad but need to hide those distracting finger not posed,. IF its in the picture you need posed or attention given to what's in the viewfinder. Excellent location and DOF. Nice sharpness here too, Nice not to see wrinkles. Add alot more elegance.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/44633541
All working except the lighting and the wrinkles on her left side under breasts  that happens alot but edit out what cant be hand removed before shutter clicks. Fingers distract but not as bad for she is relaxed but fingers further apart and relaxed would be huge improvement. Nice hip kick too.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/44668624
the last place you want them hands especially poorly posed fingers is between the legs unless tugging a top down or doing a hand cover of privates. The flowers to this head piece destroy images but this one is small enough that it's  not as bad as many but why use it. It's the size of an ear and the ear is her and part of her features and more real feel.. Lighting shadow spill not all that bad, nice skin tones I like the mood but the fingers and the bare feet work for the mood. Dress wrinkles are fine and it's a cute dress. Lots of headroom, but you got to keep the arm of the swing so sometimes headspace has to be there if not caught prior to shutter release.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36082953
You learn a few things and you could have some nice shots. it's the little things adding up and got to speak up on the bras, eyebrows and more. I love the reflective mood and tones but you cut her foot off and then all that head room. that hand can't be there up in front or the knee so make slight adjustments You have a shot or an arm here being so straight and out in front with fingers. Outfit rocks but the earrings should have stayed home.  It goes against all that photography is about. I'd edit out the shadow on her leg so it's not cut up. Just far enough from tree that it's not growing from her head.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37873030
great setting, cute smile. hate that headroom especially when image crop is off, harsh shadows on face could have been removed. At least logo super small here. Cute top. Don't like bra and hair not posed coming over shoulder. Some awesome shots but you need daylight or better lighting which might be tough if no help. Awesome tones here too. Just so sad that what could be a postcard didn't have the focus for framing prior to shutter.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37872706
Outside of being dark a stop or so nice image. earrings working here. Awesome DOF. I like most of your images are nice and sharp.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37870734
You don't want the elbows and arms, but both you and the model nailed it so it's a kick butt image with awesome tones and mood. You need to pose that hair and paying attention , but a gorgeous shot with awesome DOF too, perfect reflective look and lip curl. Nice framing and pov in this one. Bracelet working even without necklace.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37872376
Nothing adds a trashy and amateur look than a belly button ring that is also blocking a major feature and curve. Model is holding breath not good, I deal with it all the time too. too much headroom. too much head lift, too dark and phone looking pic.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37873339
Got to lose those rings, basics of distractions and hands got to go and stay off legs, distract and break up leg curves when posed nicely. AP caught up with you here. Face not too sharp and light, happens on low AP. could have fixed it with edit,
. cute earrings with matching bracelet. Cant tell if the necklace matches style or coloring. Nice setting, hate the bra look with unnatural curves but at least top is neat without lines too. Nice location and nice cropping. nice mood and smile.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37872432
Phone shot and lighting. See that harsh shadow from tie. Not good. Lips look zippered shut. too much headroom. never seen so many models with bracelet but no matching necklace. You really want the earrings, necklace and bracelet and then some have a colored bracelet that helps bring out the  outfit. Shot thousands of catalog shots over the years and they all wanted it that way. Bad cropping. too much headroom and then too choppy down low. Hair pose is extremely poor and distracting and looking unnatural.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37870951
I get this alot with weave just way too huge. Hair is not posed and so messy. hands to the face is so not to do. now you not only broke up her neckline and elegance you added a bent wrist, tones of fingers. an arm and elbow across almost half her body. You need to be the models eyes and just not snap without sizing up your shots. One of the few images your tones are off. Just a bad crop during shot. real nice DOF. the right arm is all chopped off.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37870954
No idea why so many models want two outfits on at once. Not good for a pro look. skin tones off here, hand is hurting next to face, head down no good.  Awesome smile. Too much headroom. The shoulder up and shoulder to camera not pro posing. Other elbow huge distracting. Shots of arms are not good. Shoot the models features and personality keep her real by no double garments and bras and not chopping bodyparts. Crop properly before and after shot so model has a chance to take over image.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37873085
Such a cute model, need to pose hair and lose the headroom and hotspots. Killer location. Tones nice.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36758405
Don't like the bra and cropping but all else is fun and working. I would crop higher for her right leg is way off in size that you just wont see till after, so liquify or crop to fix. Nice tones. lighting real nice in most spots. Hair is curly on neck but it happens

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37895119
You never have hair in ponytail to then grab parts of it. No makeup is destroying everything. bent wrist should never be done in glamour. too much headroom and AOF in this one but your batting near perfect for DOF. But you need to remove that tube or whatever it is going thru the body too. What out for the hair grabs , this one is way off and ruins shot too, Ilke the dress and accessries.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37871045
Nice pov but the arm across body ruins shot. Serves no purpose and ruins any mood set. Lots in this image is nice including posture. like the bracelets and leg cross,

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37873328
No makeup can be photoshopped in. without it pic is ruined, I see the hanger plastic on side, harsh light shadows on dress. engagement and wedding bands are total do not do's except couple shots and bridal shots. Not for fashion or anything else but for the jewelry store, You destroyed her facial features hear and made it a shot of a hand in the face. Hair is super messy. too much headroom.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/37873052
real messy hair not posed. looks like a phone pic with all the harsh lighting and harsh shadows. Hate the bra fake torso look a bra creates  Tones nice. fingers almost hidden, you need to hide them all before shutter clicks.

You have some nice talent but don't seem to pay attention before clicking shutter. Some shots so close to gorgeous and yet destroyed with bad after bad. You make the changes and your images and port will rock. Love the locations. Need better lighting in dark somehow. The direct phone light is killing a nice setup.

Have fun! Love the locations.
