Hi all!

I took some shots with a friend who's still learning how to shoot models.  I chopped 8 inches of my hair off a couple months ago, and haven't shot in a while, so we collaborated.  I'm pretty happy with how they came out, but of course would love any and all critique/comments.

Thanks guys.  Hope everyone's well!

Hi!

I'll just get right to it!  The first 5 I think were supposed to have "mood lighting", they missed the mark and they are just dark!  Move them to later in the portfolio.  Everything else in there works for me.  A few full length shots would be nice, maybe dressed up in a full length gown if you have one.  A few bikini shots if you are into those, athletic wear, casual jeans, etc..  You have a good look for this.

For the up and coming photog, play with the lighting more.  Figure out how to set the mood with the different lighting patterns.  Study other photogs and how they light images that are similar to what you are looking to do.  YouTube is a cheap way to get some reference material on how to setup lighting.  Another piece would be to experiment with depth-of-field to make the backgrounds not quite so clear and move the focus back to the model.  The experimenting with the compositions is great, keep it up!

My 2 cents!!!

I agree the photos do not do you justice.
All portfolios should have at lest two simple photos to show what you look like, a head shot and a body shot, the art stuff comes later and in some cases they double as art and body/headshots

There's a snapshot quality to the pictures. Not particularly flattering to you. I'm sure you can do much better with a better photographer.

Hi Amanda,

I am in total agreement with Jorge Kreimer, you have a lovely look, just that your photos are not working well.

You have an interesting face for beauty/cosmetic work and long well-maintained hair is a plus. Consider approaching beauty photographers. . .The latest batch doesn't really help show your power.

Your up-and-comer photographer friend (Brian Orozco) has achieved a most important goal - he has captured images that you are happy with.

Happy enough, that you also shared them on Model Mayhem for critique/comments.

It’s pleasing to learn there are models who don’t always expect perfection from every photographer they choose to shoot with.

Thankfully, there are models (like yourself) who enjoy helping their friends, novice and student photographers to take a shot at a dream and see if they can pull it off. So from me, it's ... a well done!

One good thing I will say, is that at least the photographer tried to give the images some mood and made an effort with the posing, as opposed to the typical "Make a fist and hold it under your chin, then look down your shoulder and look sad..."

They're kind of flat though, as far a exposure and contrast go, so the mood is lost by this.  They're also composed and cropped poorly, so they don't flow well.
