With memories of one of her, rather early, infamous parties.  May she rest in peace.

The airport was officially changed from McCarran Int'l  Airport to Harry Reid Int'l Airport, and then he died a week later.

I ran into her at a Borders Book Store about 25 years ago.  Everyone was making a big deal about her but I didn't know who she was at all.

Rest in Peace Ronnie--- Thank you so much for all the music, all the fun.

Most of you are probably too young to remember the Ronettes, but they were  a big part of my youth...

Ronnie Spector, '60s icon who sang ‘Be My Baby,’ dies at 78

Today at 5:57 p.m. EST
----  https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/ob … story.html

NEW YORK — Ronnie Spector, the cat-eyed, bee-hived rock ‘n’ roll siren who sang such 1960s hits as “Be My Baby,” “Baby I Love You” and “Walking in the Rain” as the leader of the girl group The Ronettes, has died. She was 78.

Spector died Wednesday after a brief battle with cancer, her family said. “Ronnie lived her life with a twinkle in her eye, a spunky attitude, a wicked sense of humor and a smile on her face. She was filled with love and gratitude,” a statement said. No other details were revealed.

Charles McGee, a Tuskegee Airman who flew 409 fighter combat missions over three wars, has died. He was 102.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III on Sunday announced his death on Twitter, both of them calling McGee an American hero.

“While I am saddened by his loss, I’m also incredibly grateful for his sacrifice, his legacy, and his character. Rest in peace, General,” wrote Austin, who did not specify where McGee died.

The Tuskegee Airmen is the nickname of the first African American unit to fly combat airplanes in World War II.

McGee was among more than 900 men to train in rural Alabama from 1940 to 1946 after the Army Air Corps was forced to admit Blacks pilots. About 450 deployed overseas and 150 lost their lives in training or combat.

McGee was one of only a few pilots — white or Black — who flew combat missions in that conflict and during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

And the 332 Fighter Group never lost  bomber to enemy action. Those escort pilots stayed with the bombers from Ramatelli, Italy to Berlin and back.

Meat Loaf apparently died after a battle with Covid-19.  While I was a fan of his music collaborations with Jim Steinman, he was very outspoken about his views regarding the pandemic.

He recently had been "railing" about the vaccine mandates in Australia and has also claimed that he "would rather die, than face lockdowns".  They haven't released whether he was personally vaccinated or not, but it's a very sad situation all round.

Sad indeed. RIP Meat Loaf.

I dont know the facts regarding his death, or anything about his vaccine stance. If he died because of ignorance it is even more sad.

But I know too many people have died unnecessarily in this pandemic.

The anti-vaxxers have their beliefs - as scientifically unfounded as they are, they "believe" them... I am NOT not defending them in any way, but at least they are acting out of heartfelt "belief". Sometimes you just cant fix stupid.

But there is a special place in hell for the media types- Tucker Carlson leading the list - who have consistently been given the facts by well qualified experts--- and have chosen to promote "alternate facts" for purely GREEDY reasons- Carlson does his shtick for RATINGS- Rogan does his show for RATINGS they seek the almighty dollar and dont give  damn who dies as long as the $$$dollars$$$ roll in.

Mostly true, but I am having difficulty believing how "heartfelt" much anti-vaxxism really is, considering the level of partisan hostility associated with that view. Seems hatred of "libs" animates a lot of anti-vaxxers, and comes from a darker place than "the heart."

I attended his "Bat Out of Hell" concert decades ago.  Entertaining with an enthusiastic crowd.  Just 9 months after Jim Steinman's death, who I feel was responsable for Aday's revival.

Brent Renaud, an acclaimed filmmaker who traveled to some of the darkest and most dangerous corners of the world for documentaries that transported audiences to little-known places of suffering, died Sunday after Russian forces opened fire on his vehicle in Ukraine.

The 50-year-old Little Rock, Arkansas, native was gathering material for a report about refugees when his vehicle was hit at a checkpoint in Irpin, just outside the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said the area has sustained intense shelling by Russian forces in recent days

Mark Shields, well respected long time political columnist and commentator (the Washington Post, CNN, Capital Gang and the PBS News Hour's "Shields and Brookes") passed away at 85 years of age.

He came from the days of intelligent, honest and friendly political discourse.  Those he debated with politically, often became close friends who, uniformly, praised his intelligence, political knowledge, wit and warm heart.
