On this date England signed a treaty ending the war with the American Colonies.  The European Colonial powers at the time officially recognized The United States of America as an independent country.  So for the residents of the U.S., Happy Independence Day.  And thanks to the governments of France and Spain at the time for making that happen.  Without their help, the colonists would have lost.  And the signers of the Declaration of Independence would have been hunted down and executed as terrorists and Benedict Arnold declared a hero.
