Apparently they are reintroducing more mature categories that you can enable from your desktop and tag your new stuff with?

After four years, I wonder if it's too late to mount a comeback...but as people get continually fed up with Instagram (and who knows what will happen with Twitter under Elon), it will be nice to have a place to reliably post nude photography again.

Answer:No...Tumblr is dead and buried
I have a Tumblr acct which I havent looked at in ages and I had no idea of this change.
Tumblr hit the self destruct with its anti nude policy and it aint coming back from that.
Too much time has passed and peeps have moved on.

Could depend on what happens with twitter. If people keep leaving, they will need someplace to go.  If tumblr allowed nudes again, they might find an audience.  Instagram won't allow them, but twitter does.  So people leaving twitter will need a new place for their nudes.

I've been using tumblr the whole time. Even when they moved mature content off. I noticed my tumblr has been active the whole time. Yes, there was a decline at one point. The people who love and use tumblr never went anywhere. Everyone tells me Model Mayhem is also dead. But I am still receiving activity and quality bookings. However, I see activity as a relative term. There is active looky-loos which may increase reach. But there is active in terms of quality activity of users who find value in your content. I tend to measure it in terms of value. And quality reach. I still receive quality traffic from Tumblr to my various sites. While in the past I would receive more views, those views didn't always translate to traffic in terms of clients. There is a difference to me in terms if eyeballs just looking at the content. To eyeballs interaction and buying my brand. Often with my brand the less mature content, the better sales and bookings I experience.

Tumblr is one site I have heard of people heading to after Twitter.  Mastadon is another.

No. I am personally no longer posting nude images on any site I do not personally own. So, my personal website it about it. Too many of the social networks change the TOS too often. Heck, I had to even remove images from MM years ago because there was a mod who thought himself a porn police. He requested I remove half my credits and some of my images from certain fetish sites. He had an issue with the watermark. Even with tumblr I spent days cleaning up my profile. It seems with TOS always changing it is the best option. I often do the, see the uncensored version at my website.

A lot of people don't know this but members of Mastadon and Tool formed a supergroup called Legend of the Seagullmen. They released music mainly in 2018.
