well a kit fee, is a tern of a fee charged for doing make-up. Myself I charge a $25 and up kit fee for projects like tfps . or some film work ,like student films, for the most part I have no problem getting this fee, the person who hires me pays me, ie. if a model wants a make-up artist she or he is the one who pays me smile
also what were you wanting to know about the bridal side of this industry?

Oh okay...great.

I wanted to know...

What should be done at the consultations?
Do I stay at the wedding and provide touch ups?
What needs to be in the contract?

ok so make sure to set up a contract, I always charge for a consultation half of what I will be charging on the big day. at the consultaion you should try out dirrernt looks, up to three if she cant deside then rebook and recharge. I usually do one look very natural with a little make-up and the go a little heavier if she wishes, you can usually get a feel for a bride when meeting with her as to what she wants. get her to bring you tear sheets from magizines of what she likes, make sure to mention that these images are probably photoshopped.
in my contracts I have the price ,
# of people being done, price for each person,
cancelation fee( if cancelling less than 48 hrs before wedding I get half of agreed fee.),
whats going to be done, make-up and hair or just make-up or just hair., cosnultaion fee,
onimentation of hair fee,
type of make -up being used ( have had a problem with past brids requesting nothing specific then when i show up they freek cuz i dont have mac or something like that)
their signature and I have copies for them to keep.
if your going to stay all day to do touch ups you should charge .
why would you stay ? unless your getting payed you should leave after finnishing the make-up. I provide a little bridal goodie bag for my brides, it  includes one use eye drops, a custom blended lip stick, I just scoop some into a little container , a small amount of powder and a disposable "puff" sponge. and some water proof mascars and a disposable wand. I use tube mascars and I just put some into a little container. all of my brides have loved this unexpected little gift smile
I also ask for the fee's as soon as I get there or some times I am given the money at the conultaion or get a paypal account
hope that helps  Mandy at Deadly Design Make-up Artistry

outside of the industry i don't really charge a kit fee. like with society make-up (brides, etc.) i just sort of include it in the price. mainly because, most people outside of the industry dont get the concept of a kit fee.

A "Kit fee" is the money to replenish your kit with supplies.
A bridal contract should contain names, dates, fees and times.  It should be signed by both parties and returned by the bride with a DEPOSIT. Do not accept bridal clients without getting at least 50% for a deposit.
I do one look for a bridal trial.  It is natural and pretty.  I have her review the look and we proceed from there.  If she wants more dramatic, or lashes, etc.  I also airbrush brides.  They are into that these days.
You should spend time talking with the bride to figure out what type of look she wants, what she is comfortable wearing (ie-what she wears daily),does she have a physical picture of what she wants?
Research what brides are doing in your area.  Who are the popular makeup artists?  What are they doing?  Read magazines with brides.
You shouldn't have to spend more than an hour and a half with a bride, from start to finish.  This includes talking to her.  You can talk to her as you prep her face.  I average an hour and 15 minutes.  I talk ALOT.
Her application on the day of should take 25 minutes.
Make sure you are comfortable applying makeup to another face.  Brides can sniff out a newbie.  Pamper her skin and relax her.  I always burn candles and have music on.  Pampering her skin does not necessarily mean expensive product.  Just be comfortable in applying moisturizer and whatnot.
With brides, less is more, usually.
Good luck!
