There is so much beauty and art around us but we either fail to see it or avert our eyes. If I am out walking and I see a good looking man or woman I will take a second look.

This whole conversation is weird to me. I think men (even the nude ones) are beautiful. That's why that's mostly all I photograph right now.

Peter is in his 60âs now and well, living in the Castro district of San Francisco. Peter was a very well known model and photographer in the gay community in the â70s. If youâre interested take a look at: (and yes, itâs 18+) http://www.peter-berlin.com/ Thank you for the link - - - Very Interesting. The 70's genre type stuff is so artsy ; like a " beginning of an era " type of thing . Before that ; fashion , such as it was , was pretty much drab and colorless stuff ( you know the organization man , etc , ; everyone dressed in grey ) Although rebellion against organizational dressing can be dated to the early 1960's and the ' beatniks ' ; you know ; Maynard G. Krebs and Dobie Gillis , etc. the burst of color from the 70's era has lasted to this day.

I have to raise my hand on this one. I love a good pic of a man in shape either clothed or nude. Now it would be a different story if the guy had a beer belly...ick!

Yes - And seriously, there needs to be more of them. Over time, women have been like, the accepted nude model. If I was more of a photographer, I'd shoot male nudes all the time. There's just something that you can get lost in if you're able to uncover the elegant side of the male nude. Very rich, very classical. Whenever I'm lucky enough to stumble across them here, I send them friend requests so I can have the drawing references. Really comes in handy! -D.

Male artistic nudes can be beautiful...such as the older grecian paintings and statues...but just a random guy with it hanging out half-erect? that's not art, that's porn.

That is so David Lucas. Dude, what the hell? I love my male nudes. I've caught so much shit for drawing them, you wouldn't believe. And I run the gamut in my male nude art from pornographic to classical, so some of the flack is there for a reason, I suppose. But seriously. There's a lack of male nudes in the industry. I want more, I tell you! More lean torsos and developed thighs! Rippling and grooved biceps and carefully sculpted deltoids...ARGH.

I enjoy looking at male nude images if they are artistically done. As with all nudes, I prefer that they are inadvertantly nude, rather than 'here is my penis' or 'here are my boobs', etc. I like it shown with class. Oh, and I also like the tight jeans that imply that there is something wonderful going on...lol - that can be much sexier than a full nude.

I suppose that also sets me apart from most others - I don't think phalli are ugly, or hideous, or stomach churning in the slightest. I love them. It also doesn't help that I've "tutored' in my own art under some of the best gay erotica artists in the US, either. I think if you have a severe distaste for cock, you're not going to like a male nude. Personally, I say bring them on!

Damn. I think it kind of goes without saying that the male nudes in question would have to be in shape. With women nudes, you can do the "Mother Goddess' thing and not have a woman in shape. With males, there's so much more of a classical impulse (thanks Greeks and Romans!) to have a standard of idealized male beauty, simply because it was such a large part of the lifestyle back then, which is the quickest way that I can put it without getting into a massive history lesson. But, the key word there was "idealized", which is how it goes with any kind of modeling. Maybe not so much with figure models, but it still lingers. I definately am referring to an idealized male figure. But, if you note, the male nudes around the Medieval Period were a bit rounder and more girlish. -D.

I'm always curious to see how females would photograph men, different than how men would do it. I need a list of female photographers of the male nude (fine art) I have a short list somewhere: Za-Hazzanani is the first name that pops in my head

I've posed before for other photographers and didn't like the results (I'm also not as fit as I could be. 20lbs or so over weight) The again the combination of being straight, being a major self critic, etc probably had an effect.

Honestly, no. They aren't the type of men I'm attracted to. If their bicep is larger than my head, no thanks. Seeing nudes in print just doesn't do it for me, sorry guys. It only works in person. :-P Actually, implied shots are pretty sexy, if they are artistic. But I do have to agree with Peggy on the jeans thing. THAT's hott!
